Say Yes to Climate Action Rally - 05.06.11, 1:00pm

Say 'Yes' Australia is a group of national civil society organisations working together to organise rallies around the country on the 5th of June to push for a strong price on carbon pollution and a cleaner Australia. Brisbane will be holding a family friendly rally at Brisbane Riverstage, 1pm Sunday June 5th

The Yes movement is a new collaboration of positive people with a combined membership of over three million. We’re sick of hearing “No, it can’t be done.”
Australians have always done big things. It’s more than just our Big Apple, Big Macadamia or Big Pineapple. Our creativity and determination made us one of the first countries in the world to give women the vote and to create a National Park. We built the Story Bridge and designed breakthrough inventions like the freestyle swim stroke and the dual-flush toilet.

So let’s keep going. This year is our best chance yet to pass a fair and ambitious price on pollution to tackle climate change. But we’ve all heard the naysayers arguing that carbon price means the end of civilisation as we know it. We need to change the story by taking back the debate from their fear mongering.

Our South East Queensland community can be part of something big.

RSVP to the facebook event for the rally - http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=109163089172191 />
Say Yes Australia is made up of the Australian Conservation Foundation, Australian Council of Trade Unions, Australian Youth Climate Coalition, Climate Action Network Australia, Environment Victoria, Getup, Greenpeace, The Climate Institute and WWF. The aim of the group is to advocate for climate action through an effective and strong price on pollution that helps transition Australia's economy to a safer and greener future.

Time: 1:00pm

Date: Sun 5th Jun, 2011

Location: Brisbane Riverstage, City Botanical Gardens

A Call to Action ~ It's Time Bellbowrie Got Back On Its Feet!

"Local resident Bill White has the following letter publishedon page 8 of  The Westside News (http://westside-news.whereilive.com.au/) of 6th April 2011. We quote: "The recent flooding of the Bellbowrie area is now some three months in the past.I have read in your newspaper about the fantastic efforts of many people in many areas that were affected to enable them to get their businesses up and running. However, in Bellbowrie we still have cyclone fencing around the complex, only the hardware store is operational and the largest store (Coles) is nowhere near opening. How is it that..."

Chill Bill, instead of thinking about yourself being inconvenienced, think of the many home owners that still have guttered homes, and every one else in bellbowrie is in the same boat regarding the shops. staple foods such as bread and milk have not gone away via the moggill gen store, servo and now the lucky 7 opening. it takes time for the wood to dry out and as it still rains and all the doors and windows open they keep getting wet,.so if it up to you we just refit coles and 1 month down the track have mould growing behind the new walls, what then?? months more waiting as it have to be rectified. health regulations mate, do a job right the first time then ya not gotta go back and fix faults. honestly mate, plan a weekly shop, and dont go winging like when we did flood and get a bad name as the "forgotten suburb" perhaps go offer yer help to the tradies and help speed up the process. and hey. no one is stopping you from moving to kenmore.

Nobody is being selfish or disrespectful to flooded homeowners when they seek answers relating to the reconstruction of vital town assets. Actually, affected homeowners would be the most keen to get back to normality, which includes simple tasks like quick visits to the shops because they have inconveniences both at home and when shopping. Most only have the latter. There is a lack of public relations from the 2 businesses we rely on most of all in our community: Bellbowrie Shopping Plaza and Coles. No information is frustrating the community. We need information for the community spirit to be lifted. If it is not want we want to hear, well, at least we know and can plan our lives around it. Is there now a problem with obtaining insurance on the Plaza land? Are insurance companies demanding infrastructure/assets be above the official flood line before insurance is certified? By providing no/little information just raises more questions.

Petition ~ Re Bellbowrie Plaza Shopping Centre

This petition has been lodged in response to the closure of several more businesses in the Bellbowrie Plaza Shopping Centre and the fact that all commercially zoned land in Bellbowrie is currently owned by the same person. The rapidly expanding suburbs of Moggill and Bellbowrie need a community hub of quality, which provides the goods and services required however over many years we have been consistently let down in this regard. As a community, we have for many years striven to support our local businesses. Regrettably, we are increasingly forced to travel outside of our community to procure the goods and services of a quality other Brisbane residents take for granted.
