Well, I hope they try again - I think a McDonalds at Bellbowrie would be fantastic!

Comment added 1pm, Tuesday 28th Dec 10 by "Kathy "

Agreed Kathy, McDonalds or tavern, hmmmmmm, Obviously there are more "drinkers" than "Eaters" in Bellbowrie, because there doesnt seem to be a lot of complaining about the proposed tavern. Quite a few kids are at home with fast food on the weekends anyway, and as a single male, I see the same people in the sports club week after week...... childless, lolz. Maybe if more parents actually cooked for their children, they would stop eating the junk, and Yes!, i hope this hits a nerve, as the only ones that would be annoyed with my comments are the GUILTY ones. Thanks......... And have a nice day

On January 28th 2011, McDonald's Australia lodged an appeal to the Planning and Environment Court against the Brisbane City Council decision.

I like McDonalds and so do my children (none of whom are overweight, unfit or unhealthy). Every week or two we currently enjoy a 'treat' visit to McDonalds in Kenmore, where the kids play on the playground whilst I watch them with one eye and read the paper with the other. (I am also guilty, for convenience sake, of grabbing a few things at the shops while I am there). We all enjoy our 'treat' and I just don't understand the arguments against it to be honest. It is just as easy to buy unhealthy foods at the supermarket and feed them to our children in front of the TV (something of which I am also 'guilty' of doing on the odd occasion). But if our usual daily diet is healthy, we are not overweight and we get plenty of excercise, then a few treats here and there don't hurt us at all! I would love to have a McDonalds locally - it would save the drive because we could walk there. If other parents don't want their children to eat at McDonalds, then they don't have to take them there - it's not compulsory! Apart from my own selfish convenience (I could walk some of that latte off and tire the kids out a bit more on the walk home), McDonalds in Bellbowrie would also be a potential employer for some of our local teenagers and attract more customers to other local businesses (which would in turn attract more businesses to the local shopping precint). Yes, it has it's downside too - more traffic, more noise etc. But in my opinion, the potential benefits far outweigh the negatives.

Comment added 12am, Saturday 5th Feb 11 by "Kathy "

I read the Council's refusal as being due to three major concerns. 1. Lack of integration with the existing shopping centre - it was planned to be fenced off from it. All the traffic would enter around Sugarwood Street impacting on those residents who expected to be next to residential land. 2. Underutilisation of the existing commercial centre. 3. Desire to keep that land clear for residential development, because it is the last pocket where more medium density residential might be allowed. So I thought that McDonald's would reapply with a revised scheme that fit better with the shopping centre. But it seems they want to take the court route. I guess McDonalds has been through this in number of places and they reckon that it the most expedient route. But I think it is a real shame they aren't working with the Council. McDonalds is disregarding some of the finer points that the community cares about and showing a lack of willingness to compromise. Personally I would much rather see a big Italian style family diner with some character - juke box, pool tables, nice variety of food, play area, good atmosphere. But business is not my forte. Could it be viable?

BCA AGM 7pm 7/12/11 ~ A Message From Councillor Margaret De Wit

Minutes of Inaugural Bellbowrie Community Association (BCA) Meeting

Please find attached a copy of the minutes from the inaugural meeting of the Bellbowrie Community Association (BCA).

The meeting was held as part of the formal process of incorporating the BCA and I'm pleased to say that now the Constitution has been approved, an application is being sent to QLD Government. It is expected that we should receive approval in the next 3 to 4 weeks and we'll then be able to open a bank account and take out insurances to allow us to hold events, hire venues (etc.) in our own right.

Membership Drive - our community can register on the BCA Website (http://www.bellbowrie.org) for free to keep up to date with our activities - however free membership will not have BCA voting rights. Please promote free membership of this website as it will evolve into our main communication channel.

Once we are formally up and running, we will commence a paid membership drive and commercial support to cover the running costs of the BCA. We would welcome your thoughts on the annual cost of membership. We had $20 per year in mind, but we welcome your feedback on this?

Website Development we are looking for volunteers to assist...

  • Website Administrators & Developers with experience in Drupal to assist in developing and administration of the website CRM;
  • Content Contributors to upload stories of interest and news;
  • A Website Marketing Team - to talk with clubs/associations/ about free listing on the website and businesses about sponsored listings.

Next Meeting - once we receive the formal registration of the BCA, we will have the next meeting to plan our next moves. I expect this will be in the latter part of August.

Onwards & Upwards!

No Response From Bellbowrie Plaza to the Community Consultation Report

Here is a copy of the letter we posted by Registered Post to Mr Cher, Bellbowrie Plaza Manager on 2nd July 2010 which enclosed a copy of our Community Consultation Report. Given that we have had no response from Mr Cher to date, we must assume he does not want to meet with a community representative to review the report.   Be assured that we will continue to positively campaign for our community to support the businesses at Bellbowrie Plaza, for without our support they will not have the money to re-invest in the Plaza. Please get behind them, for I suggest that the lack of consultation from the Plaza Management is not representative of the individual business owners attitudes' to the Community.   The Bellbowrie Community Association (http://www.bellbowrie.org) has drafted it's constitution and will be meeting next week (dates, time & venue to follow) to formally pass it so we can incorporate, apply for grants & collect funds and be even more effective in working towards a better Anstead, Bellbowrie, Moggill, Pullenvale & Pinjarra Hills   Onwards & Upwards!

We have had a good responseso far and hope to hold a meeting at 7pm on Wedsesday 1st July to get the ball rolling. Please email info@bellbowrie.org if you can attend this meeting;
