Mens Shed in Moggill/Bellbowrie???

I have just been thinking lately that it would be a good idea to have a mens shed in this area. Would be a great place for males of all ages to socialise, learn new skills, meet other locals and maybe work on some community projects. I think a workshop area with separate meeting room. I know there is some funding out there for the purpose of setting one up but I really don't have the time to be able to research and organise the process myself. if there were some who were interested in doing this I will assist where I can. I think if it were situated down near the shopping centre perhaps on a vacant lot of land near the kndergarten and creche on Birkin Rd behind the pool. we would have to get in touch with council and I guess a community meeting to see what support there is for this project but it would be great for the area and maybe get the younger generation linked in with more mature people in the area through activities on the school holidays (like making your own skateboard deck, billy carts, wooden furniture or toys to go to local charities). Plans for a proposed new McDonalds in Bellbowrie (UPDATED)

These plans for a new McDonalds in Bellbowrie, next to the petrol station, were on display at the Rides Carnival recently. There are mixed feelings about this in the community, even among my own family, so do have your say in consultation processes. If anyone has any more information please do post it on the Nnub. Submissions to council close on May 10th.

The pros would seem to be that the MacDonalds product would  be available in Bellbowrie for those who want it and it would create a few local jobs. It would have a children's playground, fast food, maybe a coffee shop (?) and would create another meeting place in Bellbowrie.

The principal concerns, especially for those who live right nearby  are  noise, litter,  increased traffic, smell and suitability of the restaurant for the area. The McDonalds is proposed to be open for 24 hours and may dominate the local landscape.  The land was zoned residential and is adjacent to residential housing and the childcare centre. The applicants are applying for a material change of use to allow commercial use. There is already a commercial shopping centre in Bellbowrie which struggles to fill its commerical space. 

There is concern that McDonalds in an outer suburb with few facilities for youth and young families will encourage poor eating through easy provision of food that does not serve as a healthy staple diet.

Any other pros and cons?

The Samford community decided they didn't want a McDonalds and stopped one from happening. Should Bellbowrie do the same?

A community that is actively engaged in decisions is one that council and developers will listen to more.
