Wanted: Shed to rent

Hi All,

We are looking for a shed to rent (carport size or larger).

We don't need to acess it every day, but probably we would be there at least once over the weekend.

We would like it to be lockable, access to a little bit of power (very rarely , but occasionaly ), access to some water (not a life or death matter we can bring our own also)  We would prefer it to be within 30 min drive of Bellbowrie & long term arangement.

Alternativly, if someone has a place where we could put a shipping container, this would also work for us.

Call Fran 0409 656 240 or email rooky25@hotmail.com

BELLBOWRIE NEWS AND POST staff needed urgently

BELLBOWRIE NEWS AND POST staff needed urgently

We essentially have 2 (or more) positions available.

One position has, historically, been the weekend delivery to the
Bellbowrie, Anstead, Pinjarra Hills and Pullenvale areas. The hours for this
position are 2:00am to 6:30am, Saturday and Sunday, although the finish time
can extend by anything up to an hour or more under certain circumstances.

The second position involves weekday deliveries to Bellbowrie, Anstead and
Moggill. The hours for this position are 3:30am to 6:30am Monday to Friday,
but, again, under certain circumstances, the finish time may be extended.
Our experienced drivers complete this run in around 2 hours 40 minutes
although the award grants a minimum 3 hour engagement.

Either position could be fulfilled by more than one person, depending on
daily availability, hence the "or more" in the first line.

Saturday and Sunday work includes:
- bundling of papers for sub-agents and the shop,
- delivering papers to sub-agents,
- delivery of the papers as per the run lists,
- and may include wrapping the papers for delivery and other work as
required to ensure delivery obligations are met.

Monday to Friday work includes all of the above with the definite addition
of wrapping the papers for delivery.

Under normal circumstances, the weekend delivery position uses our vehicle.
The weekday position requires use of your own vehicle and includes an award
payment currently at $0.74 per kilometre. Average kilometres on weekdays are
68km.

Both positions are paid under the Retail Award. I can give you exact
details of the award at some later time. The positions are Casual and pay
approximately $19.40 per hour including the Casual allowance. Overtime is
paid for time worked before 5:00am and for all Sunday work.

Naturally, training time is allowed at commencement. The majority of
training is on-the-job. As we have contracted delivery times, new drivers
are given partial runs to begin with and build on them as times improve.
Accuracy with respect to the run list is essential as "missed" deliveries
create more work later on than the few seconds it takes to get it right in
the first place. Support is always available as there is always at least one
other person working (although you may not see them on weekdays), or I can
be called at any time.

If you would like further information, or wish to proceed with either
position, please don't hesitate to contact me.
If you know off persons interested please forward this message
Regards,
Darryl & Monika

Bellbowrie Traffic Lights

This post is taken from (Dr. Bruce Flegg's website) - source below.

Police inform me that numerous motorists continue to do U turns at the newly installed traffic lights on the corner of Birkin Road and Moggill Road at Bellbowrie.

Local police have issued dozens of cautions and to date have avoided the issue of infringements notices.

It is understood that many local residents have been doing a U turn at this intersection for decades.

Whilst these turns have become illegal since the installation of the lights, residents have continued to do them.

I have requested the Main Roads Department reconfigure the intersection so the intersection would be upgraded to a standard that would allow a U turn permitted sign.

In the interim, requests have been made by local police, local Councillor Margaret de Wit and myself to have a No U turn sign erected to remind local residents that future enforcement will involve traffic infringement notices rather than the warnings that have been issued for some months.

There is no need to do a u-turn there. There is a u-turn lane near the Moggill Rd & Lowan St intersection. Servo users can use the access lane behind Thrifty Link Hardware. Politicians need to focus on major issues. Cr de Wit needs reminding Moggill Rd is a state concern. Police need to start fining drivers. For those accessing the bus stop, maybe there is a need for an appropriate Translink kiss 'n' ride in Bellbowrie (and park 'n' ride for that matter).

Bellbowrie Pool re-opens March 5th

(Photo: Pool manager Vlad Fodor and Cllr Margaret DeWit)

  • Temporary entrance as reception area and kiosk extensively damaged
  • Open daylight hours only - flood lighting damaged
  • Toilets and change rooms available
  • Parts of the complex fenced off because of damage

A message from Cllr Margaret deWit,

I am delighted to announce that the Bellbowrie Pool will partially reopen from next Saturday 5 March. The public can be assured that the pool water quality will be safe as a microbiological water test has been conducted to ensure bacteriological test results are satisfactory.

Given the initial estimate was that the complex would not reopen this summer this has been a mammoth effort on the part of Council officers and lessee Vlad Fodor and I thank them for their hard work. The pools have been repaired and are ready to go but the reception area and kiosk will not be operational due to the extensive damage.

I would like to acknowledge the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, CSIRO Pinjarra Hills, Aquapure and Trisleys for their help in the clean up efforts as well as the many selfless locals who volunteered to lend a hand. Vici Australia, Royal Life Saving and Austswim have generously donated learn to swim and pool equipment as the pool's existing stock was lost in the floods.

Bellbowrie pool cleanup - great work and update

Thank you to the many volunteers who have been helping to clean up Bellbowrie Pool in working bees on the weekends together with Council contractors and workers.

Robert Dixon reports:As far as the buildings go, Vlad's home is a disaster, the change-rooms are now presentable (some mud high up needing step-ladders), the kiosk and café are not as bad as the house.  See attached photos.  Power has been restored to some parts (filtration equipment and selected power points).  The grass outside the pool (near the entrance) is full of debris, including glass and screws etc.  This needs some serious attention as people walk across it in thongs or bare feet.Robert has sent info (and photos) to the council to see what happens.

Margaret de Wit has already confirmed that the pool will stay, however volunteers are awaiting a response from Council before further cleanup activity as we are unsure of Council's intention with the buildings - whether they will stay, or whether they might be new ones located elsewhere on the site that are less prone to flooding.

Margaret writes "The Bellbowrie Pool will reopen as soon as possible. We have a massive repair bill for the site but I have asked that a pool without the other infrastructure be made available to the public as soon as the repairs can be carried out. Unfortunately the 150,000 litre concrete backwash holding tank has floated and damaged the plant room. If we can get the pool repaired temporary structures can be used until the whole site can be rebuilt."

We are all hoping for a quick resolution so that our community pool can get back to use.

Anyone who is interested Vlad wants to have the pool ready to open for the Summer season, around the 15th September. He is looking for some volunteers or even work experience students to help: this could involve moving fences; garden work; gardening; beautification; interior and exterior painting; being on a committee to help with marketing and promotion; helping to sort out the room that was the Muse Cafe; sanding back and varnishing or painting the chairs; identifying, and applying for grants and donations for new programs; running group activities for seniors, children and young people; helping with organising and promoting the re-opening party. For more details please contact Vlad at the pool on the usual phone number. Kind regards, Karen Soane (pool volunteer)

McDonald's Australia Lodges Appeal in Planning and Environment Court

On January 28th 2011, McDonald's Australia lodged an appeal to the Planning and Environment Court against the Brisbane City Council decision to refuse the McDonald's development application for Bellbowrie. The original application was for a Material Change of Use to allow a restaurant to be built on what is currently zoned residential land ( as I understand it - please correct if this is wrong) in Bellbowrie.

See Planning refusal notice at http://www.moggill.nnub.net/notice/show/9005

McDonalds can go Beep themselves.. To justify a maccas in Bellbowrie we would need the "passing thru" traffic which we don't have. What do you think will happen? Maccas will use their money to pay off council to have a bridge built at the ferry to entice bypassing traffic. How many people have closed shop in the shopping center because lack of trade? Maccas just wants total domination . A freaking huge golden M in every suburb. A McDONALDS WILL DESTROY WHAT MAKES BELLBOWRIE AN AWESOME SAFE PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY...
