QCWA Moggill Branch

Title:

QCWA Moggill Branch invites you to come to share morning tea

QCWA Moggill continues to thrive - nearly 100 members with ages from 25 to 85.

The branch, which held its 9th birthday on 2 February, is renowned for its friendliness and the activities on offer are wide and diverse.

Ladies who join can sing in the choir, act with the drama group, play music, practice or learn to sew, knit, crochet, scrapbook, research, record and learn about local history, learn to play bridge or mahjong or engage in the many fundraising events throughout the year or enter some of the fun competitions.

Many of the topics cover sustainable lifestyles and simple living tips, home economics and incorporate buy local, reduce, reuse and recycle principals.

There is a social evening for ladies who cannot come to the daytime activities where a light meal is served followed by a guest speaker.

Most of these activities are featured on our blogsite http://awesomeactivitiesatmoggill.blogspot.com/

The 2011 floods saw the Moggill ladies helping out at the Uniting Church evacuation centre – making sandwiches, cakes, teas/coffees and delivering food to the volunteers who were working in the area.

The country families were not forgotten either and the QCWA State Office arranged new linen, cleaning packs, personal hygiene packs & baby supplies to be sent out to branches in rural Queensland for distribution.

So if you are new to the area and would like to meet some new people with similar interests, or are a lady new to the area missing your Mum or Grandma, please come for a visit - we would love to meet from you.

CWA is for women of all ages and there is something for everyone, if you have a particular interest let us know.

For your first visit please ring ahead, please contact Margaret on 3202 9189 or smiths@bellbowrie.com - we would love to hear from you.

Community garden

Are you interested in setting up a community garden?

Have you been watching River Cottage on ABC1 wed 6:30pm?

Would you like to grow your own food for community consumption?

We will need to get the Moggill Community Association back up and running - become incorporated again, set up a new management committee etc.  We still have some funds the the MCA bank account.

There are Brisbane City Council grants available for these type of projects and we have a great location for a garden.

The MCA can also recognise any local issues eg.transport, activities and events.

If you are interested in growing your own food with the help of Community liason officers and other local people please call Andrew 0414275066 or continue to check out the MCA website (if I can get it activated again) www.moggill.org

We may even be able to grow and sell at the Moggill Markets!!!

HI Andrew, I think this is a great idea. Haven't seen River Cottage. Where would the Garden go? In the park on Moggill Rd.? www.moggill.org is active. It was out of commission for a while, but then I got it activated. Might need Keiren's help though. Cheers, Margot

Hi Andrew, hope you are getting lots of interest. Transition Towns Kenmore District would be very happy to support a community garden in Moggil. Excellent idea with the growing population. We really need to be growing more food locally and......selling at the Moggill markets. Smiles Carol Shantal

Has anything more happened about this idea? The www.moggill.org website is down. I am also keen to help make this a reality. I am a keen herb and vegie gardener, although not a good one yet, and love to eat my own produce. I am sure participating in a community garden would help me to improve my own produce as well.

Swine Flu closes Kenmore State High til June 22nd

17 June 2009

Three members of the Kenmore State High school community have been confirmed as having H1N1 Influenza A (Human Swine Influenza).

In accordance with Section 181 of the Public Health Act 2005, our school has been ordered to close and at this stage will reopen on Monday 22 June 2009. This date may be extended if, in the meantime another case of H1N1 Influenza A (Human Swine Influenza) is confirmed at our school. This decision has been made as a method of controlling the outbreak of H1N1 Influenza A (Human Swine Influenza) in the community.

Any immediately affected people will be provided with antiviral medication and medical advice and will be advised to stay in home isolation.

The remainder of the school community does not require any medication at the moment. However, as a precaution, identified members of the school community have been asked to remain in isolation while the school is closed.
