Moggill Creek Catchmt meets Hugh Possingham 7:30pm Thu 24th June

Hugh Possingham is guest speaker at MCCG's public meeting 24 June, 2010

Special announcement!

The guest speaker at the Moggill Creek Catchment Group's general meeting on 24 June, 2010 at 7:30pm will be Hugh Possingham.

The presentation will be regarding the seasonal changes in bird abundance at Gold Creek reservoir. Australian birdwatchers and ecologists have focused a lot on space and not much on time. In this talk he will discuss some of the interesting seasonal changes in birds based on his monthly surveys at Gold Creek Reservoir. It would take many pages to give the credentials for Professor Possingham FFA DPhil (Oxford), Professor of Mathematics and Ecology, UQ but the one at the end of his illustrious bio says it all for this talk: he suffers from obsessive bird watching. Come along and bring your friends to the this very relevant talk, Thursday 24 June at 7:30 at the Brookfield Hall. For more details please call Dale Borgelt 3374 1035.

30th May Free Fun for Kids at the Cottage - Moggill Creek Catchment Group

Where: MCCG Cottage, end Gold Creek Road, Brookfield

Date: Sunday 30th May 2010

Time: 10 am to noon with a free sausage sizzle to follow

It's never too early to become involved with groups who look after our
environment. Moggill Creek Catchment Group (MCCG) has planned a fun morning
of free workshops for kids on Sunday 30th May at their Gold Creek Cottage.
From 10 am till noon, activities will include: propagating seedlings;
painting clay animals, puzzles and leaf shapes; making jewellery with
recycled materials. There will also be getting to know wildlife sessions
where children can meet and touch some of our local wildlife species, and a
free sausage sizzle from noon.

A special highlight will be a group photography walk for young people with
MCCG member Margaret Whyte at 10.30 am and 11.30 am. Margaret, who with her
grandson John (pictured) has been searching for seeds for the jewellery
workshop, commented: "This will be a great opportunity for young people to
prepare for the MCCG Photography Competition to be held later in the year.
We have both Junior (up to Grade 7) and Senior (up to Grade 12) categories
in the competition and there are cash prizes to be won!"

The focus of the day will be on fun activities for young people and for
parents it will be a good chance to find out more about the Cottage and the
MCCG. Parents, when not assisting young children with their chosen workshop
may browse in our reference library and our nursery.

All materials required for the workshops (except the photography walk) will
be provided, so just bring your hat and your camera! There is no need to
book, however any enquiries may be directed to
