Wanted: Shed to rent

Hi All,

We are looking for a shed to rent (carport size or larger).

We don't need to acess it every day, but probably we would be there at least once over the weekend.

We would like it to be lockable, access to a little bit of power (very rarely , but occasionaly ), access to some water (not a life or death matter we can bring our own also)  We would prefer it to be within 30 min drive of Bellbowrie & long term arangement.

Alternativly, if someone has a place where we could put a shipping container, this would also work for us.

Call Fran 0409 656 240 or email rooky25@hotmail.com

Community day at The Sanctuary on Moggill - with Masterchef'

Mirvac’s The Sanctuary on Moggill is set to host an open day to celebrate its latest residential land release, with activities including a cooking demonstration by Masterchef’s Alana Lowes, a community cricket game, children’s entertainment and a sausage sizzle.

The event will be held on Sunday December 4 from 11am, and is expected to attract hundreds of locals and visitors from surrounding regions. Festivities will take place at the Park across the road from The Sanctuary Sales Office.

Mirvac Queensland chief executive officer Matthew Wallace said the community event would provide an ideal opportunity for prospective purchasers to experience the lifestyle on offer at The Sanctuary on Moggill.

“This open day is all about celebrating the growth of The Sanctuary on Moggill - a thriving, tight-knit community which is now home to about 340 residents,” he said.

“As well as taking in The Sanctuary’s great location, guests will be able to hone their culinary skills with a barbeque cooking demonstration by Alana Lowes, take part in a friendly game with the Moggill Cricket Club and enjoy a sausage sizzle, sponsored by Coles Bellbowrie.”

“Children can enjoy pony rides and a petting farm, there will be plenty to see and do, so it will be a fantastic day for people of all ages.”

“Our recent stage 2a release was a great success with just three lots remaining near the on site cricket pitch, and I look forward to seeing plenty of new faces at The Sanctuary on Moggill as I expect stage 2b will also sell out quickly.

Mr Wallace said The Sanctuary on Moggill had been popular with an array of buyers, with the size and affordability of the lots and homes on offer proving to be major drawcards.

“There are few masterplanned communities within 18km of Brisbane CBD that offer homesites ranging from 661sqm up to more than 1,000sqm, making it easy to find a lot to suit homes of different sizes and styles,” he said.

“With 62 new homesites starting from just $240,000, The Sanctuary on Moggill caters to entry level buyers and growing families right through to investors and retirees.

“The community is close to schools, shops and public transport, and with a number of large parks and a new cricket pitch on site, residents have plenty of amenities at their doorstep.

“Those who act now can also take advantage of the Queensland Government’s $10,000 Building Boost which is available for a limited time, allowing buyers to make further savings on the purchase of their home.

“First time buyers can also secure a further $7,000 grant, taking total savings up to $17,000, so now is really an ideal time to buy, with government incentives, new homesites and a range of amenities available to those who want to call The Sanctuary on Moggill home.”

Mirvac says that when it is completed The Sanctuary of Moggill will comprise 358 quality family homes and will accommodate a community in excess of 1000 residents.

The Sanctuary on Moggill is located on the Cnr Moggill Rd and Sanctuary Way, Moggill.

For more information about The Sanctuary on Moggill or the community open day, please visit www.mirvacdevelopment.com/sanctuary  or contact The Sanctuary on Moggill sales centre on (07) 3202 6089.

Recent press commentary on Moggill Ferry and Bridges

(Photo - The Moggill Ferry after breaking away during the Jan 2011 flood - thanks to Flickr:bushrestaurant)

There have been several recent articles in the press about the potential for bridge crossings at the Moggill ferry and Colleges Crossing to prevent route closures due to heavy rainfall and water releases.

It is well worth the community considering this. Forward planning and consideration of all the options is the best approach to finding a good solution to this issue and preventing kneejerk solutions from being promised near election times. (Remember the Goodna Bypass.)

If you have thoughts, including on the best way for the community to go about such a process, please:

Make suggesions here or at

http://www.bellbowrie.org

Email moggill@nnub.net

or write to Queensland Main Roads Minister Craig Wallace, who is examining the issue.

Moggill Country Club proposed redevelopment

A new application for preliminary approval for the residential development of the Moggill Country Club on Weekes Road, Moggill has been received. This  property is now in the hands of receivers Ernst & Young who have lodged the application. The main changes in the latest plan are:

Reduction in the development footprint Increase in the number of lots to 93 Reduction in the lots interfacing the parkland and River The proposal has to be publicly advertised and a sign will be erected on the site giving details of where and when to lodge submissions. Please note that all previous applications are null and void and any submissions residents may have lodged will be invalid as this is a different plan. The documents are available for viewing in Margaret deWit's office or  alternatively follow the link below for more information.

The property is located at 120 and 126 Weekes Road, and possibly at other Weeks road numbers.

I have only lived in the area for four years, but don't understand why there is not a country club/golf course in the area. To me there are enough people to support and enjoy one. Was a survey done showing lack of support for it, or did it go out of business when Karana Downs GOlf Club opened? Anyone know the history?

Comment added 8pm, Thursday 27th Jan 11 by "Darren Swindells"

I agree Darren. I don't understand the logic of expanding suburban residential development and removing suburban facilities. It is a crying shame that the golf clubs are being removed, creating less local community interaction and more people driving inbound. I can only imagine it is due to planning pressures, poor planning (in my opinion) and the price of riverfront land.

Community garden

Are you interested in setting up a community garden?

Have you been watching River Cottage on ABC1 wed 6:30pm?

Would you like to grow your own food for community consumption?

We will need to get the Moggill Community Association back up and running - become incorporated again, set up a new management committee etc.  We still have some funds the the MCA bank account.

There are Brisbane City Council grants available for these type of projects and we have a great location for a garden.

The MCA can also recognise any local issues eg.transport, activities and events.

If you are interested in growing your own food with the help of Community liason officers and other local people please call Andrew 0414275066 or continue to check out the MCA website (if I can get it activated again) www.moggill.org

We may even be able to grow and sell at the Moggill Markets!!!

HI Andrew, I think this is a great idea. Haven't seen River Cottage. Where would the Garden go? In the park on Moggill Rd.? www.moggill.org is active. It was out of commission for a while, but then I got it activated. Might need Keiren's help though. Cheers, Margot

Hi Andrew, hope you are getting lots of interest. Transition Towns Kenmore District would be very happy to support a community garden in Moggil. Excellent idea with the growing population. We really need to be growing more food locally and......selling at the Moggill markets. Smiles Carol Shantal

Has anything more happened about this idea? The www.moggill.org website is down. I am also keen to help make this a reality. I am a keen herb and vegie gardener, although not a good one yet, and love to eat my own produce. I am sure participating in a community garden would help me to improve my own produce as well.

Join the Moggill Book Club

Moggill Uniting Church Community Centre Book Club

Do you like reading and also talking about books you have read? If so, you'd probably enjoy being one of the lively group of book-lovers who meet on the first Monday of each month from 9.30am to 11am at the 'Old Church' on the corner of Moggill and Kangaroo Gully Roads.

One of the benefits of being in a book club is the opportunity to be introduced to a whole new set of authors and their books as well as to make a new set of friends. Some of our members follow up the morning meeting with lunch or a movie or both.

We keep a balance between fiction and non-fiction and generally do a pretty good job of catering for individual tastes. Books are chosen three or four months in advance to give everyone a chance to borrow from the Council Library.

There are both men and women in our club, and new members are always welcome. For more information about the book club phone Noela Teakle on 3202 8614, or for enquiries about other groups in the Community Centre, phone June Rice on 3202 7045.

Improvised Bridge, Moggill, 1937

This bridge was 158 yards long and built by 16 members of the 7th Field Company, Royal Australian Engineers (Reserves) in exactly one hour. This was the longest improvised bridge ever launched in Australia and is a record held by the 7th Field Company, of whom Ron Freiberg, of Ipswich, was a member
