Mens Shed in Moggill/Bellbowrie???

I have just been thinking lately that it would be a good idea to have a mens shed in this area. Would be a great place for males of all ages to socialise, learn new skills, meet other locals and maybe work on some community projects. I think a workshop area with separate meeting room. I know there is some funding out there for the purpose of setting one up but I really don't have the time to be able to research and organise the process myself. if there were some who were interested in doing this I will assist where I can. I think if it were situated down near the shopping centre perhaps on a vacant lot of land near the kndergarten and creche on Birkin Rd behind the pool. we would have to get in touch with council and I guess a community meeting to see what support there is for this project but it would be great for the area and maybe get the younger generation linked in with more mature people in the area through activities on the school holidays (like making your own skateboard deck, billy carts, wooden furniture or toys to go to local charities). If you might be interested in having chat about this idea please add your comment and contact details.

Hi Derek, This might be something that the Bellbowrie Community Association (BCA) could get involved with given support from the community. We are in the process of setting this up (see my earlier post on Nnub and at http://www.bellbowrie.org) and hope to have a meeting at 7pm on July 1st for people who want to get involved and agree how we move forward. You might like to come along to that perhaps? We'll be posting more information on the meeting venue and and when it's confirmed.

Hi Derek, I am new to the area and very interested! There is a Men's Shed in Kenmore however they are only open during the middle of the week and not on weekends. I am a keen woodworker and I think I can get some trades support for either building or refitting a place. Happy to help out!

Hi Derek, I think the mens shed idea is wonderful, if it went ahead can we make the area big enough for all to use in the community and share the facilities not just one small group of people?

Hi Derek, I would also be interested in being part of this project. I think the men's shed concept is fantastic. I'd love to be able to link it with a community garden if possible, where we could also cooperatively grow fruit and vegies.

Community Hub in Moggill

Hi, my name is Lyn Hickman, Teacher Aide at Moggill School. I am committed to establishing a sustainable food garden at school. One of my aims is to build an outdoor classroom with a little help from a community sustainability grant.  One of the criteria is to involve our local community in the project.

I am hoping to get access to the Community Hub that was set up at the Moggill Store. I'm sure this will help me contact the many community groups in our area and to encourage these groups to utilise our future 'Outdoor Classroom'.  The facility could be used for workshops/training in sustainable areas such as learning how to vege garden, compost, worm farm, bottle excess fruit, knit, seed save, craft, draw in nature and solar cooking.
My mobile number is 0421862844, or you can leave a message at school for me on32020444.

BreakFreeNow workshop for Teens

Our teenagers are facing a world more complex than ever before. The pressures on our young people are huge. Pressure on parents, to figure it out, while raising their kids is increasingly difficult.

BreakFreeNow recognises this and provides empowering, life-changing, interactive workshops for teenagers between 13 and 17 years of age. The BreakFreeNow workshops deliver high quality journeys of exploration and discovery which confront the real issues that young people themselves are facing.

The BreakFreeNow workshop is run by the Real Teens Foundation, a not-for-profit, non religious, non political organisation run by a group of dedicated and passionate men and women who volunteer their time to help teenages face the challenges of today's soceity.
